"STORY OF PLACE"

Where disaster met possibility, a new blueprint began to form.

After Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina—stripping 40% of its tree canopy and revealing deep gaps in disaster response—communities across the region began asking bigger questions:

How do we rebuild in a way that’s not just reactive, but regenerative?

Story of Place anchors the docuseries in the land’s history and the people rising to meet this moment. It also follows Blueprint for Impact as we launch our first collaboration portfolio—bringing together funders, community leaders, and storytellers to co-create scalable solutions for regional recovery.

Through powerful interviews with Indigenous leaders, organizers, and local visionaries, this episode explores how Appalachia’s identity, resilience, and relationships are shaping a new regional future.

It’s not just a story about recovery—it’s about reclaiming stewardship, forging unlikely partnerships, and putting our blueprint into action.

EACH EPISODE IS A LIVING BLUEPRINT

Every episode showcases a replicable model for ecological and social resilience—demonstrating how collaboration across sectors can catalyze systemic change.

REDUCE WILDFIRE RISK & RESTORE FORESTS

After Hurricane Helene, Western North Carolina lost 40% of its tree canopy, creating urgent wildfire risk. Blueprint for Impact is convening stakeholders to pioneer biochar solutions—transforming downed trees and biomass into a material that restores soil health, cleans water, and rebuilds resilient forests. When our forests are back open, our outdoor economy thrives once again.
